EA SSDI Lawsuits & Benefits

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) provides financial benefits to individuals whose medical conditions prevent them from engaging in substantial gainful activity (SGA), defined as earning more than $1,620 per month in 2025 ($2,700 if blind). The program follows a strict definition of disability and provides benefits only for total disability—not partial or short-term conditions.

To qualify, your medical condition must prevent work at the SGA level, limit your ability to perform previous work or adjust to other work, and be expected to last at least 12 consecutive months or result in death. If you are struggling to obtain SSDI benefits or need help understanding your eligibility, you may benefit from a free case review.

EA SSDI Facts
SSDI eligibility and benefits

SSDI provides financial benefits to individuals whose medical conditions prevent them from engaging in substantial gainful activity. The program covers total disability only—not partial or short-term conditions.

You may qualify if your condition prevents work at the substantial gainful activity level, limits your ability to perform previous or other work, and is expected to last at least 12 consecutive months or result in death. Sufficient work credits under Social Security are also required.

Social Security uses a five-step evaluation: whether you are working, whether your condition is severe, whether it meets or equals a listed disabling condition, whether you can perform past work, and whether you can adjust to other work. Disability Determination Services reviews medical evidence to decide eligibility.

If your initial application is denied, you may request reconsideration and continue through the appeals process. Many applicants benefit from legal guidance when preparing medical records, work history, and appeal documentation.

A free case review can help you understand whether your medical condition, work history, and application status may support an SSDI claim or appeal. Complete the form to connect with professionals who can evaluate your situation.

Who May Be Eligible for SSDI?
You may be eligible for SSDI if:
            • You have sufficient work credits under Social Security, typically 40 credits with 20 earned in the last 10 years (younger workers may qualify with fewer credits).
            • Your medical condition is severe and limits basic work activities for at least 12 months.
            • Your condition prevents you from performing your past work or adjusting to other work.
            • You are not currently earning above the substantial gainful activity limit.

Benefits generally include a 5-month waiting period, with the first payment in the 6th month after disability onset. Upon reaching full retirement age, SSDI converts to retirement benefits at the same amount.

The application process can be complex, and many initial claims are denied. If you need help understanding your eligibility or next steps after a denial, completing a free case review may connect you with professionals who can evaluate your situation.
